Lexar Unveils the FLY microSD Card
Lexar has introduced a new, low-cost UHS-1 microSD card series designed exclusively for drones and action cameras. The new FLY microSD memory cards offer reliable performance and are specifically developed for use in drones and action cameras. With write speeds of up to 90 MB/s, Lexar claims to be able to quickly capture, replay, and transport media files up to 4K quality.
Regarding that, Lexar guarantees read rates of up to 160 MB/s on all FLY series capacities, which is incredibly quick considering the cards are only UHS-1, U3, and V30 rated. The 64GB capacity performs the least well, guaranteeing write rates of up to 60 MB/s. The 128GB and 256GB capacities outperform that with write speeds of up to 90 MB/s.
However, the company that makes the product says that performance may differ and does not provide information on sustained read and write speeds. Photographers and filmmakers shouldn’t anticipate read or write speeds exceeding 30 MB/s because these cards are only V30.
These low-end requirements have the advantage of being relatively cost-effective to create. Thus, the FLY series cards from Lexar are incredibly affordable: the 64GB capacity costs just $14, the 128GB capacity costs $18, and the 256GB capacity costs just $29. Given that many photographers are accustomed to paying costs for CFexpress cards in the hundreds of dollars, Lexar’s asking price is essentially nothing.
Lexar claims that the cards are built expressly for use in action cameras and drones, which suggests that they are strong even in “harsh” environments.
According to Joey Lopez, Director Brand Marketing at Lexar, “The Lexar FLY microSDXC Card is the ideal choice for adventurers, content creators, and drone enthusiasts because it was specifically made to withstand the elements during drone and action-cam photography.” Users will have enough storage space to record their travels, explorations, competitions, and other activities with capacity options up to 256GB.
