Negative Supply Unveils the Pro Film Carrier 35
Negative Supply has unveiled the Pro Film Carrier 35, the successor to the Film Carrier MK1. It is a cost-effective, professional tool that can scan all 35mm film formats, including half-frame, full-frame, and panoramic sizes, in a single capture while maximizing film flatness.
The Pro Film Carrier 35 is described by the manufacturer as the ultimate tool for 35mm film scanning due to its smooth-running bearings, sturdy CNC machined construction, and an assortment of smart and adaptable attachments. The Pro Film Carrier 35, according to Negative Supply, is the next generation of 35mm film carriers for film scanning with a digital camera since it has several improvements over the Film Carrier MK1 and is made to last. According to Negative Supply, this product underwent the most thorough research and development procedure.
“Building off the design ethos and concept of the MK1, the Pro Film Carrier 35 represents film scanning reimagined. Chief among our goals was to include support for half frame and panoramic 35mm formats (alongside standard 35mm) all in one device. This is included as a standard feature in every unit we produce,” the company says.
“We listened to existing users when they asked for certain toher features. A common request was adjustable tensioners in the scanning guides so that your film doesn’t “drift” when you’re advancing film through the carrier. These are pre-set at the factory during assembly and calibration. This makes auto adjustments in post processing much faster and provide pro-level constancy frame to frame, something commercial labs and institutions will rejoice in.”
The upgraded pro film scanner has a modular construction with a removable internal cassette for future updates and accessories. Using one of three bespoke masks created for each format, it can scan 35mm half frames up to panoramics in a single capture. It will come with a full border scanning cassette and corresponding full border masks when it first launches. The frame is made of sturdy machined aluminum and works with both the 45 Light Source Basic and the Pro Mount MK2 (with an updated adapter plate) (with custom adapter plate).
The new Pro Film Carrier 35, according to the manufacturer, has an improved transport system that uses more effective rollers and a revised smooth-running bearing to advance film in a tighter, flatter, and smoother manner. Users can achieve consistent lines and framing across a complete roll of 35mm film since the entire system is factory-set to account for film drift from frame to frame.
Negative Supply is launching a limited edition Pro Film Carrier 35 model with brass touch points and a selection of accessories.
The Pro Film carrier 35 is available starting at $399 for the standard edition and guide and up to $499 for the Launch Edition with Guide and Full Border Cassette.
