Nikon Z50’s Firmware Update Brings Eye-Detection AF for Video
Nikon has announced a significant software upgrade for its Z50 camera system, which now includes eye-detection AF for video capture.
Nikon Z50 firmware version 2.40 is now available for download from Nikon’s website. Nikon’s eye-detection AF mode is now available for the APS-C camera system, and it increases eye-detection effectiveness while shooting stills using the Auto-area AF mode.
While the Z50 is more focused on stills than the EVF-less Z30, it has nearly identical video performance, so the addition of eye-detection AF should boost anyone shooting video with the Z50.
Nikon also claims to have increased the refresh rate of the focus points displayed in live view during subject tracking and face/eye detection AF. As a result, the focus points will update faster, but performance appears unchanged.
