NiSi Unveils the 9mm f/2.8 for APS-C Cameras
A 9mm f/2.8 lens for several APS-C camera mounts has been unveiled by NiSi, a Chinese company best known for its line of lens filters. This is the company’s second lens. The wide angle, low distortion, and guaranteed clarity of the lens, according to the manufacturer, make it the best choice for astrophotography and architectural photography.
Wide-angle lenses may suffer from distortion and consistent sharpness, but NiSi claims that its 9mm f/2.8 has optimal sharpness and clarity, resulting in center-to-corner sharpness in high resolution. NiSi also guarantees minimal distortion and says that any distortion that does exist is simple to correct.
On APS-C cameras, it has a 13.5mm equivalent focal length with a 113-degree field of view, and on Micro Four Thirds, it is comparable to an 18mm focal length with a 100-degree field of view.
The 9mm f/2.8 comprises 14 elements in 12 groups, including four extra-low dispersion elements and two double-sided aspherical elements. Note that the lens is fully manual and does not connect to the camera electronically.
A 10-bladed aperture diaphragm on the lens allows it to have an aperture range of f/2.8 through f/16. The f/2.8 aperture, according to the manufacturer, allows for a pleasing bokeh in out-of-focus areas, and when the straight-bladed aperture diaphragm is closed, it creates pleasing Sunstar effects.
The SA+ anti-reflection film technology, which NiSi claims improves light transmission and minimizes lens flare and stray light, gives the lens more flaring resistance. The lens, according to the manufacturer, has little coma and little vignetting, which makes it perfect for astrophotography.
According to NiSi, the lens has been tuned for great micro-contrast, and with a minimum focus distance of 0.2 meters (approximately 7.8 inches), it has the added benefit of enabling photographers to take wide-angle pictures of objects that are still relatively close to the front of the lens.
The manufacturer does not identify any other weather sealing sites, only that the lens is weather sealed at the bayonet mount with a rubber gasket.
