NiSi Unveils Athena Cine Lenses and Full-Spectrum ND Filters
NiSi has announced the release of their new Athena range of cinema lenses ahead of the NAB 2023 show. The five-prime-lens series offers focal lengths between 14mm and 85mm for full-frame picture sensors. The lenses will be offered with Sony E, Canon RF, and PL mounts.
The 77mm filter threads and identical size of the 14mm T2.4, 25mm T1.9, 35mm T1.9, 50mm T1.9, and 85mm T1.9 lenses make it simple for videographers to transition between lenses and rigs. These lenses also promise to have little focus breathing. Additionally, because the aperture and focus rings are situated in the same locations, lenses can be changed without having to move the lens motors and gears.
NiSi’s new Athena lenses have been formally revealed, although nothing is known about them because they have mostly just been teased. NiSi is said to offer “almost no focus breathing” and exceptional image quality, including strong micro-contrast and ultra-low chromatic aberration.
According to NiSi, the lenses have a drop-in filter mount at the back and a front filter thread, at least in the Sony E-mount version shown. That’s a noteworthy addition, particularly for users using cinema cameras that don’t have built-in neutral density filters. A drop-in filter slot gives videographers more creative alternatives, even with cameras with ND filters.
NiSi has not yet revealed the cost or availability of its new Athena cinema lenses, but further information should become available during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
NiSi has unveiled a new array of Full-Spectrum Neutral Density (FS ND) filters and five new Athena lenses. According to their advertising, these filters “transmit light evenly through the spectrum of ultraviolet, visible light, and near-infrared wavelengths.” They also guarantee exceptional color neutrality.
The eight strengths of the FS ND filters from NiSi, which correspond to one to eight stops of light, range from 0.3 to 2.4. Despite the lack of available size information, CineD noted that the image NiSi supplied appears to depict a 4 x 5.6′′ filter size.
Similar to the Athena lenses, NiSi has not provided details regarding the cost or accessibility of its FS ND filters.
