Panasonic Update Its L-Mount Roadmap with New Prime and Zoom S Lenses
Panasonic has revised its lens roadmap to include two new L-mount S series lenses: one prime lens and one zoom lens. This comes in response to the company’s announcement of its upcoming full-frame S5 II and S5 IIX cameras as well as the LUMIXS 14-28mm f&4-5.6 MACRO lens.
The two new L-mount S series lenses look to be a 100mm macro lens and a zoom lens with a roughly 28-200mm focal length range based on the updated roadmap, which is posted below, but the precise focal length may alter before introduction.
If these predictions come true, the 100mm Macro lens would be the first macro prime and longest S series prime lens produced by the business. Panasonic’s L-mount range only currently offers three zooms that are macro lenses: the LUMIX S 14-28mm f/4-5.6 Macro, 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS, and 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Macro OIS.
According to the graphic, the 28–200mm zoom lens will be a variable-aperture lens. It’s probable that the lens is an f/2.8-5.6 or an f/3.5-5.6 when considering other full-frame lenses in this zoom range. It’s possible that these lenses will change or be removed entirely from the lens roadmap in the future, but for the time being, we can expect at least one more prime and one more zoom lens for Panasonic’s S series L-mount portfolio, both of which will address gaps in the lineup that don’t now exist.
