New ProGrade Gold CFexpress Cards Features 2TB Capacity

ProGrade Digital has introduced a greater capacity option for their third-generation CFexpress Type B Gold memory cards, with a capacity of 2TB. The latest generation of the company’s Gold series CFexpress cards were released in January; however, they had a maximum capacity of 1TB. This brings its offers in line with those of competitors in the mid-range performance tier, such as Lexar’s Gold Series memory cards, which were announced in April.

Most memory card manufacturers provide various solutions at various performance levels, and ProGrade is no exception. The company’s CFexpress Type B cards — the larger CFexpress design that works with contemporary Canon and Nikon cameras but not the smaller Type A design used by Sony — are divided into two tiers: Gold and Cobalt. Both offer comparable read performance numbers, but ProGrade’s Cobalt cards promise quicker write rates and perform significantly better overall when compared to the less expensive Gold series cards. To compensate, ProGrade’s Cobalt cards perform better but are offered in lower capacities.

ProGrade recently enhanced the capabilities of its Gold line cards, which now include a PCIe generation 3 connection and an NVMe1.4 host controller interface. Thanks to the improvement, they can now conduct reads at up to 1,700 MB/s and burst writes at 1,500 MB/s. ProGrade further claims they have a sustained write speed of up to 1,300 MB/s, making them perfect for high-resolution video capture applications.

ProGrade claims that the sustained write speed is now explicitly indicated on the card’s top label rather than the burst performance that other brands generally print there to distinguish the new generation from previous generations. ProGrade’s CEO Wes Brewer says the card, now available in a massive 2TB size, means “nearly all video capture modes can be utilized while also meeting traditional read speeds for quick offloading.”

The card has a metal casing for enhanced longevity, heat dissipation, and built-in thermal throttling to protect the card from overheating. It’s X-ray and shock-proof, has a three-year warranty, and works with ProGrade Digital’s Refresh Pro application.

ProGrade Digital’s 2TB capacity CFexpress Type B card costs $800, roughly double the price of the company’s recent 1TB capacity card, which costs $400.
