Rockstar Introduces Two Budget-Friendly Lenses: 10mm f/8 and 27mm f/2.8
Chinese optics manufacturer Rockstar has released a new pair of affordable prime lenses that are both under $80. The manual focus 10mm f/8 Fisheye and 27mm f/2.8 pancake lenses are available for Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, and Canon APS-C cameras as well as Micro Four Thirds.
The 10mm f/8 fisheye lens offers a 16mm full-frame equivalent focal length on most APS-C cameras (20mm on MFT) and is constructed of five elements in four groups, including three extra-low dispersion elements. It has a fixed f/8 aperture with pentagonal aperture blades, has a 30cm minimum focusing distance, and is entirely manual with no contacts for transferring EXIF data.
Below is a small collection of low-res sample images captured with the lens:
The five-element lens weighs only 79.5 grams and measures only 58mm in diameter and is 11mm thick making it one of the smallest fisheye lenses for these camera systems, and fits the true definition of a pancake lens.
Rockstar has also released a new 27mm f/2.8 lens for APS-C camera systems. The fully-manual lens offers a 43mm full-frame equivalent focal length on most APS-C camera systems (52mm on MFT) and is constructed of six elements in five groups. It has a 25cm minimum focusing distance, has a fixed f/2.8 aperture, and uses a 55mm front filter thread which does allow the use of a neutral density filter.
The company claims this 58mm by 24mm lens is ideal for shooting small product and food photos as it offers an excellent blur effect at short distances. The 27mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens is available for Canon EOS-M, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, MFT, and Sony E mounts for $59 on eBay.
Neither of these lenses are likely to impress in the image quality department, but if you want an ultra-budget option to see if you like the fisheye look or to test out the 27mm f/.8 lens, these lenses are worth the price.
