Rode Unveils the Next-Generation Wireless Go (Gen 3)

Rode revealed the next-generation Wireless Go (Gen 3), which, like its predecessors, promises versatility to suit a variety of workflows. The wireless mic has digital (USB-C) and analog (3.5mm TRRS) outputs, making it compatible with a wide range of devices, including cameras, smartphones, computers, tablets, and more. Furthermore, the transmitters are compatible with a variety of additional Rode Series IV products, including the RodeCaster Pro II and Duo, as well as the new RodeCaster Video.
The wireless Go (Gen 3) comes in a variety of colors. In addition to black and white, the new wireless microphone is available in red, orange, green, purple, pink, blue, cobalt, clay, lilac, stone, rose, and moss.

“The original Wireless Go established an entirely new category when it was released in 2019,” says Rode’s CEO Damien Wilson. “It completely changed the game for producers, providing a tiny and simple method for recording wireless audio without losing the quality and stability that their craft requires. The Wireless Go II went much farther, providing a slew of new capabilities and soon establishing itself as the industry standard. And now, with the third version of the renowned wireless mic system, the Wireless Go is more powerful, colorful, and feature-rich than ever before, ready to set the bar yet again. We can’t wait to see what you make.”

The Wireless Go (Gen 3) is a two-channel small wireless microphone system. It includes Rode’s “state-of-the-art Series IV 2.4 GHz digital transmission” technology as well as 128-bit encryption, allowing for robust wireless audio recording at ranges of up to 260 meters (853 ft) with line of sight.

In terms of design, the Wireless Go (Gen 3) “marks the return of Rode’s unique wireless form factor,” incorporating an integrated clip design that makes it simple to connect the mic to belts, collars, clothing, and cold shoe camera mounts. According to Rode, the Wireless Go works equally well with a DSLR or mirrorless camera as it does with a smartphone rig, USB mic setup, or home studio.

The internal battery can record audio for up to seven hours on a single charge, and 32-bit float recording allows for the recovery of clipped or extremely quiet audio files. The receiver includes 32GB of internal storage. There is also clever GainAssist technology onboard that provides output gain control and safety channel recordings. The safety channel is a second audio recording at a lower volume in case the primary channel overheats. The technology also allows you to monitor audio through your headphones.

The Rode Wireless Go (Gen 3) is meant to function seamlessly with a linked camera. However, for those who prefer more control, the mic is compatible with the Rode Central companion software, which allows users to customize all of the mic’s settings and functions.

Along with the release of the newest Wireless Go, Rode introduced the Charge Case+, a new dedicated charging and travel case. This tiny case for the Wireless Go (Gen 3) protects and charges the microphone system, providing two complete recharges. The Charge Case+ is offered as an extra purchase.

The Wireless Go (Gen 3) is currently on sale for $299, with delivery set for early January. The limited-edition color variants are not currently available for purchase. The new Charge Case+ costs $89.
