Samyang Optics announces the new AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II, designed for Full-Frame Sony E-Mount cameras and can also be used with Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Samyang Optics, Samyang Optics is introducing second-generation AF lenses with upgraded performance based on the technology it has accumulated over the years. Starting with the first renewal product, the AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II, the AF 35mm f/1.4 FE II, and this time the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II second-generation lens will be announced. The AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II is the second edition of the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE, and it is one of the lenses that has been loved by many people since Samyang released its first Autofocus lens in 2016.

The lens comprises 11 elements in eight groups, including four high-refractive elements and one extra-low dispersion element. Based on the specifications, this appears to be the same optical formula used in its predecessor. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 85cm, uses a nine-blade aperture diaphragm, has a 72mm front filter thread, and is sealed for dust and water resistance.

Samyang’s Linear Stepping Motor (STM) provides the high-thrust efficiency needed for fast, precise, quiet AF and tracking, thus maximizing the advantages of Sony E-Mount cameras. Compared to the previous AF 85mm f/1.4 FE, this new AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II is optimized for photo and video shooting by minimizing vibration and noise. The AF also operates quietly and smoothly when shooting video, tracking the subject accurately and quickly. Samyang’s Linear STM satisfies both photographers and videographers with quieter and more accurate control of the focusing lens groups.
