Samyang/Rokinon Announces a New 85mm f/1.4 Autofocus Full-Frame Lens for Canon RF Mount
Following last year’s release of the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE for the Sony E Mount, Samyang/Rokinon announced a new version of this lens for Canon’s full-frame mirrorless RF Mount. According to Samyang, the new AF 85mm f/1.4 RF is “arguably the best value, high performance and affordable autofocusing portrait prime available.”
Aside from the new mount, the lens remains unchanged from its Sony FE predecessor. Optically, the Samyang/Rokinon AF 85mm f/1.4 RF is constructed of 11 elements in 8 groups, including one Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) element and four High Refractive Index (HRI) elements to help minimize chromatic aberration. The optical elements also use Samyang’s Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) to keep flares and ghosting under control.
“Join the new generation. Samyang has been one of the early birds in introducing compact and lightweight full-frame mirrorless lenses for RF mount. Along with the TIPA awarded AF 14mm F2.8 RF, the new AF 85mm F1.4 RF opens a new door of options to Canon EOS R camera users. Enjoy outstanding image quality and accurate, silent autofocusing,” says Jongwon Moon, Samyang R&D Engineer, on their website.
Autofocus is driven by Samyang’s Dual Linear Sonic Motor (DLSM) and the sole button on the lens is the AF/MF button for switching between auto and manual focus. The lens features weather-sealing, a nine-blade aperture diaphragm and a 77mm front filter thread.
