This lens, first announced in October 2023, was introduced concurrently for L-Mount, Sony E-mount, and Fujifilm X Mount, and is now available for Canon RF Mount. This compact, versatile zoom is an ideal complement to the SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, which will be available for Canon RF Mount in June 2024. The updated lens will be available via authorized retail partners in late September 2024 for $659.

This is the world’s smallest and lightest F2.8 zoom lens, specifically built for APS-C mirrorless systems. On the Canon system, the lens has a 16-28.8mm (35mm equivalent) focal range with a fast F2.8 constant aperture. When paired with the 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, this pair of lenses spans a 16-80mm (35mm equivalent) range with the same bright F2.8 maximum aperture and weighs less than 550g.

The SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary employs an aspherical concave lens with a high refractive index and a large polarization ratio in the first group, resulting in fewer elements in the first group and a shorter overall length. In addition, a new push-on petal hood has been devised. The hood has been made thinner and smaller as a result of the novel structure with a spring and lever that no other manufacturer uses, which also contributes to the lens’s overall compactness.

The lens’s optical design provides a short 11.6cm minimum focusing distance and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at the wide end, enabling for close-up photography with good backdrop separation. The optical design also reduces focus breathing, while the autofocus mechanism provides quick, quiet AF for both still and video use.
