Sigma Reveals the 18-50mm f/2.8 Lens for Canon APS-C Cameras

Sigma has launched its first RF-mount lens for Canon’s APS-C mirrorless cameras, the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. This lens is a game-changer for street photographers, offering a versatile 24-75mm equivalent focal length with a constant f/2.8 aperture, perfect for capturing the diverse and dynamic scenes of street life.

Designed with compactness in mind, the lens weighs only 300 grams and measures 69.2 x 74.5mm, making it an ideal match for the lightweight Canon APS-C bodies such as the EOS R7, R50, and R10. The fast aperture not only excels in low-light conditions but also allows for beautiful background blur, making your subjects stand out.

The optical design includes multiple aspherical elements, which help reduce spherical aberrations and distortion, contributing to sharp and clear images throughout the zoom range. The lens is also designed to produce pleasing bokeh, with smooth out-of-focus areas that enhance the aesthetic quality of portraits and other images where subject isolation is desired.

The lens features a high-speed stepping motor for quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus, crucial for capturing fleeting moments on the streets. Its weather-sealed construction ensures durability, allowing photographers to shoot in various conditions without worry.

Priced at $599, the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens offers excellent value for its performance. This release is just the beginning, with Sigma planning to introduce additional RF-mount lenses, including several fast prime lenses, later this year.
