Sigma Unveils the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic to Celebrate 10 Years in China
Sigma is celebrating its tenth year in the Chinese market this July by releasing a 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic with the same optical architecture as the original lens but without coated elements, which highlights flare and lightens contrast. Only 200 35mm f/1.4 DG DN “Classic” lenses from Sigma will be available there.
The distinctive golden “Classic” emblem on the lens, like the logo of the SIGMA Classic retro movie lens series, exhibits retro aesthetics. In keeping with the age-old lacquerware skill handed down in the Aizu region for thousands of years, “Classic” is hand-painted.
According to Sigma, the 35mm F1.4 DG DN Classic creates a dreamy halo effect using the most advanced retro movie lens technology, giving each scene a distinct aesthetic and cinematic flair. Despite being retro, it differs from the imagery of the low-pixel period in the past by fusing contemporary resolution with vintage light and shadow effects. This results in a fresh expression that seems to invite the audience to consider the passing of time in the present.
Their design goals are claimed to be the “unrivaled artistic expression” and ultra-high resolution shooting capabilities of Sigma’s Cine Classic lenses. Ten Cine Classic lenses in all, all primes, are produced by the company and are available as a set for $44,000. Photographers can anticipate getting a similar look from the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic.
