The SIRUI Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6x Is the Most Compact FF Anamorphic Lens Ever Made
Sirui recently launched a new Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6X Anamorphic Cinema Lens built primarily for mobile applications, such as used with gimbal-mounted cameras and even drones that can hold a larger camera rig. The SIRUI Saturn 35mm, which is available in Sony E mount, Canon RF mount, and DJI DL mount, is perfect for shooting with lightweight equipment. The lens, with a body made of carbon fiber, weighs only 390g in the DJI DL mount, 425g in the Canon RF mount, and 415g in the Sony E mount version.
The DJI DL Mount is an optional accessory that allows the Saturn 35mm T2.9 Anamorphic lens to be attached to the DJI Ronin 4D Cinema Camera and the Zenmuse camera platform. However, there are also mounts that may be used with RF and E Mount cameras, as well as mirrorless and bigger Cinema cameras.
A 10-bladed aperture and 18 lens elements arranged in 13 groups give the full-frame Saturn 35mm lens a nice rounded, oval-shaped bokeh.
The lens is, however, manually focused, so when dealing with remote operations such as drone control, the lens is best set at infinity. Additionally, there are two alternative color-coded lens flare settings for the Saturn 35. While the gold series delivers a lens flare that is more naturally colored, the blue line series offers the traditional anamorphic blue horizontal lens flare.
Both lens versions feature a constant squeezing aspect ratio, and focus breathing, in Sirui’s opinion, has been managed to have little impact. Depending on the aspect ratio the user chooses on their camera, the lens delivers two alternative focal length effects. The anamorphic de-squeeze ratio of the lens is 2.4:1 for a 3:2 sensor and 2.8:1 for a 16:9 sensor.
A 120° focus throw, a minimum focus distance of 35.4 (90cm), a filter size of 58mm, and an aperture range of T2.9-T16 are further features of the Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6X Anamorphic Cinema Lens.
The lens has a carbon fiber exoskeleton that keeps it lightweight while also giving it a sturdy construction that protects against severe damage in the event that it is dropped or a drone crashes into it.
The early bird pre-order pricing for the Sirui Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6X Anamorphic Cinema Lens is $1099, but this offer is only valid for a certain number of units. Retail cost after fulfillment is $1299. DL, RF, and E mount options are available.
