Thypoch Unveils the New Simera-C E-Mount Cine Lenses

Thypoch’s new Simera-C cine lenses for Sony E-mount are made entirely of metal and come in four focal lengths. They are optimized for high-resolution full-frame cameras. Thypoch, the lens designer behind the Simera manual photography glass, has returned with a new line of cinema-style lenses for the Sony E-Mount. The Simera-C family of lenses, created with DZOFilm, continues Thypoch’s ambition to produce high-quality manual-focus lenses influenced by classic looks.

The Simera-C lenses are now available in four focal lengths: 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm, all with a brilliant T/1.5 aperture. A fifth lens, a 21mm, will be available in the future.

The lenses are entirely metal but are exceedingly tiny and lightweight, weighing between 380 and 450 grams. This makes them excellent for both hand-held and gimbal/drone work. Each lens is weather-sealed for dust and splash resistance, and the focus and aperture gears are consistently aligned, making lens shifting easy in any condition.

The Simera-C lenses include a long 210-degree focus throw for fine manual focus pulls and etched-in focus scales in metric and imperial units. The Simera-C lenses are notable for their 16-bladed aperture design and optical formulae capable of resolving 8K film. According to Thypoch, this combination will provide a natural and gentle background blur, which should improve image clarity and increase the visual aesthetics of each shot.

Each lens costs $879 individually or $3,169 for a set that includes an all-metal carrying box, shims, tools, and a fifth spot for the future 21mm lens.
