Tokina Unveils the Vista-C Series Lenses
Tokina has revealed nine new cinema prime lenses with focal lengths ranging from wide-angle to medium telephoto. With revised optics and fresh coatings, this range promises a contemporary spin on traditional cinematography aesthetics.
To suit professional needs, Tokina collaborated with top cinematographers and rental houses. Soft edges, creamy bokeh, and a natural fall-off for high-quality shallow depth of field are among the sought-after attributes and characteristics of this new line. The prime lens lineup ranges from wide-angle to medium telephoto, with focal lengths of 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 105mm, and 135mm.
“This is an incredible set, with amazing characteristics and a lot of personality. The flares are very rich, and the mix of blue and red creates a beautiful aesthetic in the frame. The focus fall-off and minimal focus breathing add another layer of personality and versatility, making this set an easy choice for achieving magnificent results in visual storytelling,” says Horacio Martinez, SVC, Director of Photography.
The Vista-C series, with a 46.7-millimeter image circle, supports a wide range of image sensors, including the largest RED and Blackmagic Design rigs as well as Canon and Sony mirrorless cameras.
The newly released Tokina Vista-C Prime T1.5 lenses are designed to provide the ideal balance of nostalgic vintage aesthetics and current performance. The redesigned primes have a fast T1.5 aperture, promise low focus breathing, and have new coatings for red or blue flare.
Other optical enhancements to the series include higher spherical distortion, lower contrast, excellent resolution with low distortion, and low chromatic aberration. In the case of Vista-C cine primes, some optical faults are desirable characteristics.
“While the outward structure of the Vista-C lenses is virtually unaltered from the prior Vista and Vista-P series, the optical design represents a significant divergence. It took years of labor to create the Vista-C lenses, with elements modified or updated in each lens and entirely new coatings produced,” Tokina reveals. “The shift in optical design and flare colors creates an appealing, retro-fresh look. The effects are substantially different from the other Vista lenses and other cinema lenses on the market.”
All lenses have an all-metal cine-style housing and unified focus ring positions. Furthermore, all of the lenses in the new Vista-C lineup have the same 114mm front diameter and nine-bladed aperture diaphragm.
The Tokina Vista-C prime lenses will be available in March at costs ranging from $10,499 to $12,499 each.
