Valoi Unveils the Easy120 Film Scanner
Valoi, which is well-known for its home scanning solutions such as the easy35 for 35mm format film, has launched the easy120 film scanner for scanning and digitizing medium-format film.
The easy120 is a small film digitization device that takes up about the same amount of space on a desk or table as a standard computer keyboard. The system is simple to disassemble and store. It’s also quick, claiming to scan an entire roll of medium-format film in a minute or two.
Like the easy35, the easy120 is intended to be simple to set up and use. It’s a plug-and-play system that uses the user’s existing camera, whether a DSLR or mirrorless model, and a lens with narrow focus, such as a macro lens. According to Valoi, because of the system’s design and the vast size of 120 films, photographers must use a focal length (or full-frame focal length equivalent) less than 105mm.
The easy120 has a film holder with a built-in backlight and a light-sealed connector that connects the user’s lens to the film holder. Users may quickly swap out the film holder to scan different film formats, and the device is compatible with the majority of macro lenses, even those with filter threads as large as 77mm.
The accompanying light source, the CS-LITE Camera Scanning Light Source, has a CRI of 95 or above, indicating consistency and color accuracy. The light is strong, allowing photographers to use higher shutter speeds when scanning, resulting in more consistent photos with less shake and a faster workflow.
The Valoi easy120 will be available directly from Valoi and through CineStill in the United States beginning in December. The whole Valoi easy120 system is $544 for preorders and $610 at retail. Valoi offers several accessories for the easy120, including the easy120 Advancer Attachment, easy120 Duster, and 35mm slide holder.
