Vazen Unveils the 135mm T2.8 1.8x Anamorphic Full-Frame Lens
The Chinese lens maker Vazen has announced the 135mm T2.8 1.8x Anamorphic lens for full-frame EF/PL cameras. The 135mm lens completes a three-lens set, including 50mm T2.1 and 85mm T2.8 anamorphic lenses. Just like the 50mm and 85mm, the 135mm T2.8 covers large-format cinema cameras like the RED MONSTRO, RED V-RAPTOR, ARRI Alexa LF, and Kinefinity Mavo Edge 6K.
Vazen promises outstanding sharpness, even when shooting wide open, a feat it says isn’t matched by competing PL/EF anamorphic lenses with a similar squeeze ratio.
Despite its relatively long focal length, the new 135mm lens has the same focus and aperture position as the Vazen 85mm anamorphic lens, allowing easy lens switching on set. In total, the lens is 23.6cm (9.3″) long with a max diameter of 9.5cm (3.74″). The lens weighs 2kg (4.4 lbs). It also features a 86mm front filter thread which is useful for ND filters or diopters, as well as a standard 95mm front diameter. The lens is available in an interchangeable PL and EF mount.
Vazen chose to adopt a 1.8x squeeze design to balance the anamorphic characters as well as the resolution of the image. The 1.8x squeeze can produce a cinematic widescreen 2.39:1 aspect when paired up with 4:3 sensors. When paired up with 16:9 sensors, much less data (than 2X anamorphic lens) is needed to be cropped away to create the desired 2.39:1 ratio.
The manual focus lens can focus as close as 1.52m (5′). The lens includes a focus ring with engraved focus distance markings and an aperture ring with full stops labeled. One-third stops are marked with hashes.
The Vazen 135mm T2.8 Anamorphic lens is available now for $8,000.
