Venus Optics Introduces the Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Fujifilm GFX
Venus Optics has unveiled the Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D GFX, a manual-focus prime lens for Fujifilm’s medium format camera system with a 110-degree field of view and minimal distortion. The lens is comparable to around 15mm on a 35mm full-frame sensor format thanks to the GFX’s bigger medium format sensor size. Zero-D refers to Venus Optic’s assertion that photos have virtually no discernible distortion. According to the company, the lens is ideal for architecture and interiors because straight lines are preserved and don’t require post-processing correction.
The medium format ultra-wide lens is also quick, which Venus Optics claims to help photographers better work in low light and produce appealing out-of-focus backgrounds. According to the company, the lens is also remarkably compact and considerably lighter than any GFX lens currently available. It is 80mm long and weighs 546 grams.
The manual lens comprises 12 elements, organized into ten groups, including one ultra-high refractive element, two aspherical elements, and three extra-low dispersion elements. It has a five-blade aperture diaphragm, a 77mm front filter thread, and a minimum focusing distance of 18cm. According to Venus Optics, the focusing system, which is fully manual, is comparable to the Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Zero-scale D’s adjustment system.
“This is easy for users to adjust the focus marking against their own cameras. The actual infinity marking can be calibrated exactly on the infinity mark, making it helpful when shooting in the field, especially at night when doing astrophotography,” the company says.
