Venus Optics Announces the Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35 Cine Lens
Chinese lens manufacturer Laowa is continuously releasing lenses at a very constant pace. The company recently expanded its Cine lens lineup for Micro Four Thirds cameras with four lenses, and today has announced their new Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35, an ultra-wide prime lens offering the equivalent of an 11-12mm lens in full-frame terms and offering a massive 123° field of view. It uses a ‘Zero-D’ optical configuration for near-zero distortion and should be ideal for architecture, interiors, and, of course, street photography.
The lens features 16 elements in 10 groups with two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical elements to improve sharpness and chromatic aberration control across the frame in both in-focus and out-of-focus areas. Despite its wide angle of view, the lens’s front element is not a dome, which allows you to use 77mm filters to it. With an outside diameter is 80mm, is perfect for a standard clamp-on matte box. The nearest focus distance is 0.25m. The lens also comes with a weather-sealed box for transportation and protection.
As a cine lens, it also has geared focus and iris (aperture) rings, and the iris ring is de-clicked for smooth and silent exposure control.
