The Laowa Proteus 2x Anamorphic series has been unveiled. These new lenses will cover Super 35 sensors with focal lengths of 35mm, 45mm, 60mm, and 85mm. The lenses are all T2. The Proteus 2X Anamorphic Series, according to Laowa, was created to be the most affordable professional anamorphic lens for Super35 sensors with a constant 2X squeeze ratio. According to reports, the Proteus Series features traditional anamorphic characters with current image quality.

The Proteus is available in 35mm, 45mm, 60mm, and 85mm focal lengths with a universal T2 aperture. Built with an optimized optical design and dependable anamorphic glass, the lenses can produce sharp close-up shots at a distance of 55cm (1.8 feet), have smooth elliptical bokeh, and have the nice touch of offering signature flares in classic sci-fi blue, warm and elegant amber, and neutral silver (the silver flare will change color according to the light source). The lenses will have a 25.92mm × 21.6mm picture circle diameter.

The lenses work well with 4:3 or 6:5 sensors (usually defaulted in professional cinema cameras to deliver a 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 image after de-squeeze). Cinematographers and filmmakers can utilize the video entirely or reduce it to a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with minimum resolution loss.
