Viltrox Announces a 16mm f/1.8 Sony Lens with LCD Screen
Viltrox has unveiled a 16mm f/1.8 autofocus lens for full-frame Sony E-mount with a sizable LCD panel showing current lens settings. According to Viltrox, it can display lens information while shooting and features an RGB IPS display with a resolution of 160 by 80 pixels. Its ability to display full color is uncommon, as top-mounted camera screens are normally black and white.
It’s touted as a full-frame wide-angle lens with a big aperture and excellent focusing capabilities.
The Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 lens is made up of 15 components organized into 12 groups, including three aspherical elements and four extra-low dispersion elements that, according to the company, work together to deliver ultra-high resolution with efficiently controlled dispersion, ghosting, and glare.
The lens has an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/22 with a nine-bladed diaphragm that produces a beautiful bokeh for a super wide-angle lens. That quick aperture also means better low-light performance.
A stepping motor drives the autofocus, which according to Viltrox, gives high driving force for precise autofocus that works with Sony tracking technology, including face and eye focus.
The lens may be clicked and de-clicked in terms of aperture, making it suitable for both photo and video applications. The Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E-mount is $549 on pre-order. It is scheduled to begin shipping on May 26.
