Viltrox Unveils AF 27mm f/1.2 Pro Lens for Sony and Nikon APSC Cameras
The AF 27mm f/1.2 Pro lens, the second in Viltrox’s ultra-large aperture prime lens Pro series of optics, will be available for Sony and Nikon APS-C cameras. It promises to combine ultra-high resolution with a super-large aperture that generates pleasant bokeh.
When it first became available for the Fujifilm X-mount, the lens joined the 75mm f/1.2 in Viltrox’s Pro range of optics.
According to Viltrox, the 27mm focal length has a full-frame equivalent of around 40mm, which is near to the viewing angle of the human eye and is the gold standard focal length for street photography, portraits, and even landscapes.
According to Viltrox, the 27mm f/1.2 Pro has extremely high resolving power, which allows every detail of the image to be clear and true to life. The f/1.2 aperture not only improves the lens’s performance in low-light circumstances, but Viltrox claims it also gives an extremely shallow depth of field, resulting in lovely bokeh and reducing distractions in the background, even if they are quite busy.
The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro comprises 15 elements divided into 11 groups, including five high-refractive index lenses, two extra-low dispersion lenses (to reduce chromatic aberration), and one aspherical lens to correct for distortion. The lens has a narrow focusing distance of 0.28 meters.
The optic’s 11-bladed diaphragm allows for an aperture range of f/1.2 to f/16. The stepped, clicking ring in front of the camera mount allows you to regulate the aperture of both the attached camera and the lens itself. The lens also has an autofocus/manual focus switch and a single focus lock button. The front of the lens accommodates a 67mm filter size.
The lens supports autofocus via a stepping motor (STM). Viltrox claims it possesses the force required for precision tracking, including eye AF, animal AF, and other subject identification modes.
According to Viltrox, the lens has been sealed against dust and water and features multiple high-grade weather-resistant rings. The inside of the camera mount also includes a USB-C connector that may be used to update firmware.
The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro is now available in both Sony E and Nikon Z mounts for $545.
