VILTROX Unveils T1.5 Cine Primes for MFT Cameras
Three quick cinema prime lenses were recently released by Chinese lens manufacturer VILTROX for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras. The same set of glasses is now being reissued, but this time with a native Micro Four Thirds mount. As a result, the new set is natively compatible with many well-known mirrorless cameras, including Panasonic’s top-of-the-line MFT model, the LUMIX GH6, and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K.
The VILTROX MFT Cine Set has three focal lengths: 23, 33, and 56mm, just like the APS-C range. All lenses have a T1.5 maximum aperture, which is helpful when using Micro Four Thirds sensors, particularly in low light situations. Smooth, round background bokeh is said to be produced by the stepless, 14-blade aperture. Both the focus and the iris are completely manual.
The three VILTROX cine primes for MFT share the same physical dimensions (72x75mm) and have standardized locations for their focus and aperture rings, which is a nice feature in addition to their affordable price. This eliminates the need to reorganize follow focus systems and other lens accessories, making it much simpler to switch lenses in the middle of a shoot.
Each lens weighs about 500g, and the barrel is composed of aluminum. Focus throw is 153°, and 0.8 MOD focus and iris gears are standard in the cinematic housing. That ought to be sufficient to guarantee precise focusing operations for most applications. A 62mm filter can also be screwed on the front filter’s designated thread.
The optical construction of the 33 and 56mm consists of 10 elements split into nine groups, while the 23mm has 11 elements split into ten groups. These include high-refractive and ED low-dispersion glass, and the front element features a waterproof anti-fouling coating and an HD multi-layer nano-coating. The manufacturer claims that the optical formulations should produce clear images with little chromatic aberration, distortion, or focus breathing.
The pricing of the new VILTROX Cine Primes for MFT cameras is exactly the same as the price of their equivalents for E-mount cameras, which is $415 for each individual lens. You will find the lens, caps for both the front and the back, as well as a carrying pouch, within the packaging. A three-lens set can be purchased from the company for a total price of $1,200.
