We Are Here: Scenes from the Streets
The International Center of Photography (ICP) is proud to present We Are Here: Scenes from the Streets, an in-depth exploration of 50 years of contemporary public life captured through the lenses of over 30 street photographers from across the globe. The exhibition, which opened at ICP on June 26, 2024, and runs through January 6, 2025, is guest-curated by Isolde Brielmaier, PhD, in collaboration with Noa Wynn, Independent Curatorial Assistant.
Featuring photographers from Algeria, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, the United States, and beyond, We Are Here challenges traditional notions of “the street” and highlights the diverse activities and interactions that take place in public spaces worldwide. In an era marked by societal tensions and misunderstandings, the exhibition offers a unique lens through which to view culture and human experience.
The works document both the extraordinary and the everyday—from street fashion to protests—revealing the resilience and shared connections of humanity. “We Are Here invites viewers to engage with the depth and complexity of modern life, emphasizing our common humanity across geographical and cultural divides,” said curator Isolde Brielmaier.
