In 1889, May 1st, also known as May Day, was chosen as the date for International Workers’ Day. i met this artisan selling her craftwork in Union Square on May Day 2023. In New York City, Union Square is a gathering place for progressive groups and individuals to celebrate and share information with the public. When I asked this lovely proud woman if I could take her picture, she replied with a big smile, “Surely”.
