Les Marolliens Series
The photo was taken in The Quartier “Les Marolles”in Brussels. That day there was a popular party.
This family, accompanied by their belongings, sold clothes and bibelots, scattered on the floor. The photo is taken at the end of the day. It offers a desolate image. The mother seemed anguished, disappointed because they had not managed to sell enough. The girl, probably her daughter, and her husband, I guess he is, look at her concern. Dogs are a constant in the lives of many Belgians, especially puppies. In the front layer, a young woman and an old woman pass by without even seeing them.
In the background we can see signs of discounts in cheap stores, which are the usual ones in the neighborhood
The Quartier “Les Marolles” It’s the district of the true talk of brusseleer. The Marolles, land of undesirables, district has always welcomed the most disadvantaged inhabitants of the capital but also the most loving of freedom. The neighborhood is inhabited by artisans, non-native workers and the elderly. Many homes are social housing
