Les Marolliens Series
The photo was taken in The Quartier “Les Marolles”in Brussels. That day there was a popular party. At least five types of very different people can be glimpsed.
The man in the foreground is giving me a fierce look. A group of elders with a very authentic aspect of the neighborhood, one of them with a wheelchair and carrying his puppy, which the Belgians love so much. The group behind, three young blacks dressed more informally walk with ease. The couple near the road sign also has another style. In another layer a man a bag is dressed in a more formal suit. Further back comes a girl who seems to be alone, climbing a street that is guessed on a hill where buildings are seen in the background.
For me the most striking thing about the photo is that these groups seem nothing to do with each other, each one is a different microcosm
The neighborhood is filthy not only as a result of the popular street festival of that day, but also something deeper emanating from its own essence
The Quartier “Les Marolles” It’s the district of the true talk of brusseleer. The Marolles, land of undesirables, district has always welcomed the most disadvantaged inhabitants of the capital but also the most loving of freedom. The neighborhood is inhabited by artisans, non-native workers and the elderly. Many homes are social housing
