About me
A native of Mount Orab, a small town outside of Cincinnati, I joined the US Navy at 19 to work as a photojournalist for six years. During that time, I honed my documentary photography and writing skills as an independent photojournalist (for most of my tour) at my first command and worked as a training supervisor at my second.
At 25, the end of my military contract sprung upon me and I was abruptly faced to either separate or reenlist with the military. I decided to separate in order to transition back into the civilian world and attend university in Tokyo. Ready for a fresh start, I put the camera down with no intention of picking it back up again.
During my few years in Tokyo, I’ve rediscovered the camera in a new light, learning to appreciate the method of creating emotional, compelling, and sometimes surrealistic imagery while focusing on philosophy and contemporary issues.
At this point, I shoot every day, whether it’s a single image or hundreds, constantly challenging myself to push beyond my known boundaries. It’s my goal to not only capture each moment as accurately as possible, but also capture the atmosphere and emotion of the moment for the viewer to experience it as I have in an attempt to share my perspective.
I shoot with a Leica M10-P, Leica M6, and Ricoh GRIII.
